If you have an NPI, search with that. A hit on the number is a confirmed match. If you only have a name, enter the last name and the first name, then compare the NPI or the license number yourself before you act.
What is the OIG exclusion list?
The LEIE is the public list of people and organizations the HHS Office of Inspector General has excluded from federal health care programs. SAM keeps a second exclusion file that updates daily. This page searches the copies we have loaded and shows the file date.
How does someone get on the list?
OIG publishes the reasons, including certain convictions and license actions. This page tells you whether a name or an NPI is on the file you are looking at. It does not retell the case.
How often should I check?
OIG’s guidance is to screen monthly. The LEIE file is replaced about once a month, and SAM updates daily. One search is today’s file. A roster you upload on the monitoring page is rechecked on that schedule.
